reconditioning is one area of growth that API is currently developing.
Due to the shortage of core material for some models, it is necessary
to offer a fast turnaround on the existing engine. This is particularly
the case with fork lift truck companies where the engine is similar to
the vehicle version in construction but has a number of additional features
on the block or head to accommodate the hydraulic systems of a fork lift
truck.
Prices for repair are quoted on an individual basis and the only delay
can be the supply of manufacturers original parts that are necessary
in some short production-run types, or where a specialist repair proves
necessary to a component that cannot be purchased promptly or economically.
The full Mastercover-Plus 12 months/12000 miles warranty applies except
in the case of a fork lift truck unit where the duration of the warranty
is altered to 2000 hours or 1 year, all other Mastercover-plus terms
would still apply.
Diesel fuel injection pumps, injectors and glow plugs are available
from API as reconditioned units or new as necessary and are sold exchange
with 3 months/3000 miles warranty. API recommends the use of reconditioned
injection equipment with its reconditioned engines as it is likely
that any components attatched to the original engine will have had
the same amount of use as the engine and will perform appropriately.
One of the first items to be inspected on any warranty claim on a deisel
engine with excessive bore wear will be the pump and injectors.
Cylinder heads are available for petrol engines and for some diesel
engines as either low mileage used or fully rebuilt. Most usually,
diesel heads are sold fully rebuilt and would be sold exchange with
a surcharge – returnable upon receipt of the complete old unit.
